Takuan Soho

Takuan Sôhô was a notable Zen monk of the early Edo period. He is known for his involvement in the construction or reconstruction of many notable Buddhist temples including Nanshû-ji and Kenchô-ji, and for his activity in prominent social circles, exchanging letters or in-person interactions with numerous significant figures of his time.

Many of his letters exchanged with Hosokawa Tadaoki, Tadatoshi, and Mitsunao have been collected and saved in the Eisei Bunko.
