Chikatoshi was a son of [[Emura Chikaie]] and served [[Chosokabe Motochika]]. He was sent at a hostage to [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Toyotomi Hideyoshi's]] headquarters at Fushimi after the latter invaded Shikoku in [[1585]]. A competent soldier, he distinguished himself in service in the 1st [[Korean Campaign]] ([[1592]]-[[1593|93]]). He fell ill sometime around [[1596]] and is thought to have died shortly afterwards.
