Endô Kinsuke was one of the [[Choshu Five|Chôshû Five]], some of the first Japanese to study overseas in the West. After studying alongside [[Ito Hirobumi|Itô Hirobumi]] and others at University College London (UCL), he returned to Japan to become the first head of the Osaka mint.
