Chaophraya Phrakhlang was a high court official in the court of King [[Sanphet VIII]] of [[Ayutthaya]], overseeing foreign affairs and the treasury. Previously the governor of Phetchaburi, his predecessor in this high minister position sided with a faction supporting Phra Khwan, the younger son of King [[Phra Phetracha]], in a succession dispute which ultimately ended in the older son (Sanphet VIII) winning the throne; the predecessor fell from power, and Chaophraya Phrakhlang was elevated into his position.
