Takuan Sôhô was a notable [[Zen]] monk of the early [[Edo period]]. He is known for his involvement in the construction or reconstruction of many notable [[Buddhist temples]] including [[Nanshu-ji|Nanshû-ji]] and [[Kencho-ji|Kenchô-ji]], and for his activity in prominent social circles, exchanging letters or in-person interactions with numerous significant figures of his time.

Many of his letters exchanged with [[Hosokawa Tadaoki]], [[Hosokawa Tadatoshi|Tadatoshi]], and [[Hosokawa Mitsunao|Mitsunao]] have been collected and saved in the [[Eisei Bunko]].<ref>Gallery labels, Eisei Bunko.</ref>
