Sakaino Ryôun was a [[Kumamoto han]] retainer.
He is known for reviving the tradition of dog-hunting, alongside [[Saito Shizan|Saitô Shizan]]<!--斎藤芝山-->, and came to serve as a hunting teacher. He was appointed ''[[machi bugyo|machi-bugyô]]'' (town magistrate) of Kawajiri in [[1798]], with a [[stipend]] of 350 ''[[koku]]''.
