*''Japanese'': 国学 ''(kokugaku)''

The National Academy of the [[Ryukyu Kingdom|Ryûkyû Kingdom]], based on the model of [[National Academy|that in Beijing]], was the highest educational institution in the 19th century kingdom.

Established during the reign of King [[Sho On|Shô On]] (r. [[1795]]-[[1802]]), the Academy was staffed chiefly by [[scholar-aristocracy of Ryukyu|scholars]] from [[Kumemura]].
