Ryô Shô was a Ryukyuan scholar-official who served, at times, as a master of Chinese music and dance, training other officials for roles in official court ritual performances.

He studied in China for three years, beginning at the age of 23. Shortly after his return to Ryûkyû, Ryô Shô was appointed "master of Chinese dance" (Tô-odori-shi). At the age of 44 (in 1789), he was assigned to train musicians who would travel to Edo the following year.
