Sai Ken was a [[scholar-aristocracy of Ryukyu|Ryukyuan scholar-bureaucrat]], who served on at least one [[Ryukyuan tribute missions to China|tribute mission to China]].

Journeying to [[Beijing]] at age 22 as the chief interpreter (''totsûji'') on the [[tribute]] mission, Sai Ken fell ill and died at the [[Huitong-guan]] on [[1587]]/11/10, shortly after arriving in the city. He was buried at the [[Zen]] temple Anchan-si in the Outer City.
