Doi Toshikatsu was a son of [[Mizuno Nobumoto]] and was adopted into the [[Doi clan|Doi family]] of [[Mikawa province]]. He served as an advisor to both [[Tokugawa Hidetada]] (with whom he spent his childhood) and [[Tokugawa Iemitsu]], and was highly regarded by the latter.
