Takamine Chôkyô was one of [[Okinawa prefecture|Okinawa prefecture's]] first two elected representatives to the [[National Diet]] House of Representatives, along with [[Kishimoto Gasho|Kishimoto Gashô]].
He and Iwamoto, along with [[Jahana Noboru]], [[Ota Chofu|Ôta Chôfu]], and [[Nakijin Choban|Nakijin Chôban]], were the first five Okinawan students sponsored by the [[Meiji government]] to study in [[Tokyo]].
