Chikamori was an important retainer of [[Otomo Sorin|Ôtomo Sôrin]]. During the 1570's and early 1580's, Chikamori began to distance himself from the Ôtomo and went so far as to enter into secret communications with the invading [[Shimazu clan|Shimazu]] in [[1586]] although his son Chikataka fought the latter from [[Okashiro castle]].
