''Tenmon gata'' was a post under the [[Tokugawa shogunate]] charged with calendar revision and related academic and scientific obligations. The post was established in [[1684]], with [[Shibukawa Harumi]] as the first office holder.
In [[1811]], ''tenmon gata'' [[Takahashi Kageyasu]] became the head of the newly-established ''[[Bansho Wage Goyo|Bansho Wage Goyô]]'', an office in charge of producing translations of foreign books.
