He was one of [[Hojo Ujimasa|Hôjô Ujimasa's]] chief advisors and came to hold authority over both [[Kawagoe castle|Kawagoe]] in [[Musashi province|Musashi]] and [[Matsuida castle|Matsuida]] in [[Kozuke province|Kôzuke]]. He was present for the Battles of [[Battle of Mimasetoge|Mimasetoge]] ([[1582]]) and Kanagawa (1582) and was one of those that urged [[Hojo Ujinao|Hôjô Ujinao]] to both resist [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hideyoshi]] and avoid an open battle.
