Kunikiyo was a son of [[Murakami Yoshikiyo]] and served the [[Uesugi clan|Uesugi]]. He aided in early negotiations with the [[Tokugawa clan|Tokugawa]] and campaigned with [[Uesugi Kenshin]] in [[Etchu province|Etchû]] (1572) and [[Noto province|Noto]] (1577). When Kenshin died in 1578, Kunikiyo gave his loyalty to [[Uesugi Kagekatsu]]. In 1582 he was given [[Kaizu]] in [[Shinano Province]] but was called back to [[Echigo]] the following year. Kunikiyo afterwards left the Uesugi and is thought to have died in Kyoto.
