Shigehide was the son of [[Suzuki Sadayu]]. He was sent to join the defenders of the [[Ishiyama Honganji]] who were fighting [[Oda Nobunaga]] and there gained fame for his skill at leading arquebusiers. He later served [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hideyoshi]] in the same capacity and fought in Korea. He is sometimes said to have fought at the B[[attle of Sekigahara]] on the side of [[Ishida Mitsunari]] but this is impossible to confirm.
