Shôkyû was regarded as the leading master of linked verse (renga) after the death of [[Tani Sôbuko]] in [[1545]]. He accepted the famous [[Satomura Joha|Jôha]] as a pupil around [[1544]] and on his death bed, entrusted Jôha with the leadership of the [[Satomura school]] of renga and the care of his son Shôshitsu.
