Tomonobu held [[Akata castle]] in [[Echigo province|Echigo]]. He fought in [[Uesugi clan|Uesugi]] campaigns in [[Etchu province|Etchû]], the [[Kanto province|Kanto]], and [[Shinano province|Shinano]] under [[Uesugi Kenshin|Kenshin]] and later supported [[Uesugi Kagekatsu]] in the [[Otate no Ran|Ôtate no Ran]]. He was considered one of the most capable of the Uesugi generals.

Tomonobu served [[Uesugi Kenshin]] and held Akata Castle in [[Echigo province]]. He fought in many of Kenshin's battles, including campaigns in [[Etchu province|Etchû]], [[Shinano province|Shinano]], and the [[Kanto]]. After Kenshin's death, Tomonobu supported [[Uesugi Kagekatsu]] in his [[Otate no Ran|war for control of Echigo]] with [[Uesugi Kagetora]] and was afterwards involved in the war with [[Shibata Katsuie]] (of the [[Oda clan|Oda]]).
