The Kanto Kanrei was the responsible head of the shogun’s executive office in the Kanto region, which consisted of the 8 provinces of the Kanto, with the addition of Kai and Izu. The Kanto Kanrei was given the power to raise armies, grant and take away land, make political appointments (such as shugo positions), as well as oversee temples and shrines.
