Nakamura Jiro

Nakamura Jirô was the first Japanese Consul in Hawaii, arriving in 1885 on the City of Tokio, along with the first officially authorized Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.

He came to Hawaii with his wife, and Viscount Torii Tadafumi, who was to work with him in the consulate. Though Japan's first "Consul," Nakamura did not hold the title of Consul General; Japan's first Consul General, and first official of the formal rank of "ambassador" was his successor, Andô Tarô, who took over the following year.
