Dana Sokei

Dana Sôkei, also known by his Chinese-style name Bai Taika, was a prominent Ryukyuan sculptor.

He was born in the Wakasa neighborhood of Naha. Beginning when he was 29 years of age, Sôkei was commissioned by Satsuma han to produce netsuke and inrô. His extant works also include wood sculptures of Kannon.

Chinese investiture envoy Kô Jinkan named him as being of particular talent.
