Shinsengumi Timeline

I have created a seperate page for the Shinsengumi Timeline, and I used a Wikipedia trick to display that article seamlessly inside the Shinsengumi article. For anyone curious, I put this in the article:

That puts the text from another article inside the article you are working on. If you want to add dates or events to the timeline, you can do it either way, you can edit the Shinsengumi Timeline directly, or you can edit the sections in the Shinsengumi article, and the changes will also happen in the Shinsengumi Timeline article. --Kitsuno 22:30, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Kiyohara Kiyoshi

Kiyohara Kiyoshi's other name was 武川 直枝 - Takegawa Naoe or Sugue? Or is it something else? --Kitsuno 10:27, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Naoe--Shikisoku 04:31, 26 December 2006 (PST)

Kondo Shuhei's father

What is the correct reading for: 谷三治郎 ? 名前の読み方が面倒くさい! --Kitsuno 18:24, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Kondo Shuhei(Tani Shuhei) was originaly Tani Masatake, 谷三十郎 Tani Sanjuro's little brother.--Shikisoku 04:21, 26 December 2006 (PST)

Ibaraki Tsukasa

The book 血誠新撰組-峻烈壬生浪士忠と斬 says that when Ibaraki tried to leave the Shinsengumi he was killed (新撰組の大石鍬次郎らに斬殺された). But it goes on to say that his grave states that he committed suicide. What do your books say about this? I wonder if it isn't really known exactly how he died? --Kitsuno 21:55, 26 December 2006 (PST)

Generally it is believed that Ibaraki,Sano,Tomikawa,Nakamura, those 4 members committed Seppuku together in the Aizu han residence.

But some sources say they were killed by several Shinsengumi members include Oishi. --Shikisoku 06:12, 27 December 2006 (PST)

召し抱え

What exactly does 幕府召し抱え refer to? were 召し抱え (mercenaries) different troops from the Shinsengumi? A biography for Shibayama Tokusaburou says: 1867/6/10 の幕府召し抱えで平士に名を連ねている。What exactly does this mean? --Kitsuno 21:11, 29 December 2006 (PST)

Shinsengumi were basically Ronin troop until Bakufu officialy gave them positions in 1867/6/10(Please check the Shinsengumi Chronology).--Shikisoku 05:25, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Shinsengumi "Units"

2 questions - how were the units referred to? 番組み or 番隊? And does the list of captains on the Shinsengumi page (Captains 組長) indicate which unit they lead? --Kitsuno 15:40, 30 December 2006 (PST)

"番隊" is correct. However the captains were called "組長". *1番隊組長沖田総司--Shikisoku 20:48, 4 January 2007 (PST)

Thanks. Are the captains on the shinsengumi page listed next to the units they lead? --Kitsuno 21:56, 4 January 2007 (PST)

Basically Yes. It was changed sometimes though.--Shikisoku 00:38, 5 January 2007 (PST)

I'm going to reformat the list of captains on the Shinsengumi page when I get a chance, so I'll make a note when I get to it, so you can tell me if it works or not. --Kitsuno 19:08, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Name Reading

What is the correct name reading for: 神戸四郎?

Kôbe Shirô--Shikisoku 20:56, 4 January 2007 (PST)

Name and location reading

What is the correct name reading: 権太郎 Gontaro or Kentaro? Also, does this 旧唐津藩 refer to Karatsu han in Hizen province? --Kitsuno 15:30, 30 December 2006 (PST)

I think it's Gontaro. 旧唐津藩 refer to Karatsu han in Hizen is correct.--Shikisoku 21:02, 4 January 2007 (PST)

Dappan 脱藩

How should I translate 脱藩 in English?--Shikisoku 16:56, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Doesn't it mean "to become a Ronin"? (or at least to "desert/flee" your han)? I believe the indication is that they would be leaving the service of thier lord without permission? --Kitsuno 17:28, 7 January 2007 (PST)

New Category

I am going to create a category called Shinsengumi Members, exclusively for the members of the Shinsengumi, while the current "Shinsengumi" category will still be for all members and people and events related to the shinsengumi. This will allow people to check the "Shinsengumi Members" category to see just the members, while the "Shinsengumi" category will be for everyone related, and the related events. So from this point on, be sure to include both and to the biographies of the actual shinsengumi members. --Kitsuno 18:44, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Mibu Roshigumi

Should we have a category for members of the Mibu Roshibumi? Were there enough notable members, and/or did they all eventually just become members of the Shinsengumi? --Kitsuno 19:06, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Mibu Roshigumi--Shikisoku 23:06, 7 January 2007 (PST)

I mean a seperate category, --Kitsuno 23:15, 7 January 2007 (PST)

I think it's not necessary--Shikisoku 17:23, 9 January 2007 (PST)

Ok, thanks. --Kitsuno 21:25, 9 January 2007 (PST)

Seven

 • Please cite sources when you rewrite. I noticed you are mixing Lunar calendar and Western calendar. (This wiki takes Lunar calendar.)--Shikisoku 16:43, 12 January 2007 (PST)
 • "according to "Shinsengumi Episodes" (by Kojima Masataka), he died during the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877; according to "Shinsengumi Dokuhon~Taishi Gaiden 2", he died from an illness in 1873" You can add them on References--Shikisoku 16:53, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Photos

 • The Okita Soji's photo uploaded from "Shinsengumihq" is not confirmed by any researchers or historians.Shinsengumihq is good English Shinsengumi researching site but can't be a source.--Shikisoku 01:48, 16 January 2007 (PST)

and who else?

Lunar Calendar

"On November 18 (lunar calendar)" Do we have to mention Lunar calendar everytime when writing dates?--Shikisoku 17:12, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Since a lot of people get confused, I believe that we do have to mention it's a lunar calendar date whenever possible. Seven 17:16, 12 January 2007 (PST)

I had discussion about this with Kitsuno when writing Timeline. And conclusion was that this wiki takes Lunar calendar. So please stop adding (lunar calendar) until Kitsuno decide what to do.--Shikisoku 17:25, 12 January 2007 (PST)

There is no need to add "lunar calendar" because unless otherwise noted, it is understood as lunar calendar. I just have to update the main page to reflect that. You'll notice that on many of the shinsengumi bios for birth and death I have both. --Kitsuno 19:48, 12 January 2007 (PST)

My point exactly... It has to be noted somewhere (like on the main page. ) Seven 20:37, 12 January 2007 (PST)
The problem you've helped highlight is that there are so few people who actually edit, we pretty much all know the formats, so I'm sure it is a pain for new users to figure out how things need to be done. The "Help" section I have is OK, but pretty basic, I need to really go in and write specific sections for a variety of things, including dates, but also for biographies from different eras - the pre-Edo period biographies have been completely standardized, but those standards don't fit with (for example) the bakumatsu biographies because they contain fundamentally different information. It's on my to-do list, but it will be a slow process, since I dont have a lot of time right now to put all this down. --Kitsuno 22:06, 12 January 2007 (PST)

Nakajima Noboru and Nakajima Nobori are different persons.--Shikisoku 05:57, 5 February 2007 (PST)
