Atai

Atai was an administrative position within the government of the Ryûkyû Kingdom. Atai were generally of the Fifth Rank and held the title of peechin. They served as local inspectors in specific fields. For example, yama-atai oversaw forests, while kôsaku-atai oversaw farmlands.
