Araki Mataemon at the duel

1630, Kawai Matagoro killed Watanabe Kazuma's brother in Okayama. Matagoro's father let Matagoro go off to Edo and had Hatamoto Ando Jiemon, Kuze Sanshiro to hide him. Lord of Okayama Ikeda Tadao demanded to hand him over but they refused. It developed confrontation between Okayama han and Hatamoto. When Tadao died, he left a will which asked to defeat Matagoro. Finally Bakufu ordered the Hatamoto to release Matagoro. Matagoro was hidden by his uncle in Nara for a while and when he tried to go to Edo again, he was ambushed at Iga-Ueno. Matagoro was with 10 guards and Kazuma had Sukedachi Araki Mataemon and 2 of Mataemon's pupils.

The battle took 6 hours. Matagoro was killed.

The story is filmized repeatedly by now.
