Kushima Masanari was the lord of Takatenjin castle in the Kito district of Totomi province, and was a vassal of Hôjô Ujichika. He was defeated and by Takeda Nobutora's army in 1521 but whether he died on this occasion or in a battle in June of 1536 is a matter of debate among scholars. His son was adopted by Hôjô Ujitsuna.
