He was Nanbu han samurai. He practiced Shinto Ryu in Morioka and Hokushin Itto Ryu in Edo. He left from Nanbu han and joined the Shinsengumi in 1865. Despite of he was Kenjutsu teacher in the Shinsengumi, there is not much records that he involved battles. But his name was seen on some of records as a negotiator. He was missing during the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. After Shinsengumi left for Edo, he visited Nanbu han residence in Osaka and tried to return to Nanbu han. But it was denied and he commited Seppuku there.
