- 1177/4/28 A fire ravages Kyoto[1], destroying roughly one-third of the city, and a number of Palace structures, including the Suzakumon and Daigokuden; the latter is never rebuilt.
- 1177/6 Shishigatani Incident - an uprising against Taira no Kiyomori fails. Fujiwara no Narichika is exiled to Kikai-ga-shima.
- 1177/6 Fujiwara no Naritsune is summoned to Fukuhara and then to Bitchû province before being exiled to Kikai-ga-shima.
