In 1585 Hashiba Hideyoshi took the title of Kanpaku ("regent, chancellor") and the next year took the family name Toyotomi 豊臣. His son Hideyori was destroyed by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1615 during the Osaka Campaign, bringing the Toyotomi clan to an end.
