Masazane, a former vassal of Nanbu Nobunao, refused to yield to Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590 and the following year his Kunohe castle was taken by Gamô Ujisato. This marked the last real resistance to Hideyoshi's hegemony. The surviving Kunohe were afterwards dispossessed.
