Prince Atsunaga took the throne as Emperor Go-Suzaku in 1037/1. Teishi became Chûgû the following month, and Kôgô the month after that. Following Emperor Go-Suzaku's death in 1045, in the 7th month of that year, Teishi took the tonsure and took on the Buddhist name Myôhôkaku. She took on the title of Kôtaigô (Empress Dowager) in 1051/2, and Taikôtaigô (Senior Empress Dowager) in 1068/4. The following year, in 1069, she was granted the honorary title Yômeimon-in.
