Shimazu Tadahiro was the final lord of [[Sadowara han]].
The son of [[Shimazu Tadayuki (Sadowara)|Shimazu Tadayuki]] and his wife Yori-hime (Zuishin-in), Tadahiro became lord of Sadowara in [[1839]] at the young age of 12, when his father died suddenly at [[Kusatsu]] on the way to [[Edo]].
Tadahiro's third son [[Shimazu Keijiro|Shimazu Keijirô]] studied in the United States for about seven years in the 1860s-70s, and played a notable role in both the [[Freedom and People's Rights Movement]] (''Jiyû minken undô'') and the [[Satsuma Rebellion]], in which he was killed.<ref>Plaques on-site at grave of Shimazu Keijirô at the Nanshû Cemetery, Kagoshima.</ref>
