The ''Kachôjaya'' (lit. "birds and flowers teahouse") was a teahouse which opened in [[Edo]] c. 1790-1800, which kept numerous plants, flowers, and exotic birds on display for patrons to enjoy. The birds on display included [[peacocks]], [[parrots]], and even [[ostriches]] imported via [[Chinese in Nagasaki|Chinese]] and [[VOC|Dutch merchants]] at [[Nagasaki]].
