Lǐ Yǔ was a Chinese merchant based in [[Hakata]] who enjoyed ties with several notable ''[[kenmon]]'', including [[Todai-ji|Tôdai-ji]].

In [[1196]], he traveled to [[Ningbo]] to obtain a complete copy of the Buddhist canon to bring back to Tôdai-ji. In return for his service, he was granted land in [[Chikuzen province]].
