Tanaka Mitsuaki was a [[Meiji period]] statesman, who served for a time as [[Imperial Household Ministry|Imperial Household Minister]]. He is said to have been a devoted worshipper of the [[Meiji Emperor]], and commissioned a lifesize statue of the late Emperor in [[1912]] to be produced, and gifted to the Emperor's widow, the [[Empress Shoken|Empress Dowager Shôken]]. That statue is today in the collection of [[Meiji Shrine]].
