Hosokawa Shigekata was the 8th [[Edo period]] head of the [[Hosokawa clan]], and succeeded his father [[Hosokawa Nobunori]] as lord of [[Kumamoto han]].
Hosokawa Shigekata was the 8th [[Edo period]] head of the [[Hosokawa clan]], and lord of [[Kumamoto han]].
A son of [[Hosokawa Nobunori]], he succeeded his elder brother [[Hosokawa Munetaka]] as head of the family, and lord of the domain, after Munetaka died suddenly.
He is known for his reforms of domain administration.
A text titled ''Gindai iji'' (銀台遺事) collects records of his reign.
