Itakura Shigemune served as [[Kyoto shoshidai]] (chief [[Kyoto]] city official for the [[Tokugawa shogunate]]) from [[1619]]/9 until [[1654]]/12/6.
During his time as Kyoto shoshidai, Itakura also involved himself in debates regarding policy towards China, including formally expressing support for sending troops to aid [[Zheng Chenggong]] and other [[Ming loyalists]] on [[Taiwan]] against the forces of the [[Qing Dynasty]].
