Matsudaira Tadaatsu was one of the first Japanese to graduate from Harvard University, doing so in [[1879]].

Brother to [[Matsudaira Tadanari]], the last ''daimyô'' of [[Ueda domain]], Tadaatsu attended Harvard University, and after graduating, married an American woman, Carrie Sampson, the daughter of a bookshop owner. He later became the city engineer for Bradford, Pennsylvania, and inspector of mines for the State of Colorado.
