Harold Gould Henderson was a Japan scholar who over the course of his career served as Columbia University professor, director of the [[Japan Society (New York)|Japan Society]] in New York, advisor to the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program ("Monuments Men") division in Japan as a member of Gen. MacArthur's staff, and, along with Reginald H. Blyth, liaison between SCAP and the Japanese Imperial Household.
Henderson and Blyth also played key roles in drafting the so-called ''ningen sengen'' declaration in which the Shôwa Emperor declared himself human, and not a divinity.
