In [[1585]] [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hashiba Hideyoshi]] took the title of [[Kanpaku]] ("regent, chancellor") and the next year took the family name Toyotomi. His son [[Toyotomi Hideyori|Hideyori]] was destroyed by [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]] in [[1615]] during the [[Osaka Campaign]], bringing the Toyotomi clan to an end.

The Toyotomi was a short-lived but very prominent [[samurai]] family which existed from [[1585]], when [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hashiba Hideyoshi]] took the title of [[Kanpaku]] ("regent, chancellor") and, later that year, the family name Toyotomi, until [[1615]], when Hideyoshi's son [[Toyotomi Hideyori|Hideyori]] was destroyed by [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]] during the [[Osaka Campaign]].
