"Cultural Figures" might work for someone like Saigyô or sword-makers, but what about Mongaku, Nichiren, Sukezaemon of Luzon (a merchant of Hideyoshi's time), or Goemon? No matter how many categories we make there will be people outside them. At least we need an "other." Unless, of course we just make up categories as needed. Bethetsu  Sept 14

I think we need an "Aristocrats" subgroup for the bios, as men like Wake no Kiyomaro and others don't belong in a general samurai bio section. Nagaeyari 06:20, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

Just add a tag in the appropriate articles, then edit the Aristocrats page and add a tag.

I'm interested in a "Fauna and Flora" category. What do you think?

"Fauna and Flora"? Uh, I guess - you have some flowers of historical significance? --Kitsuno 13:28, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

Yeah, there's a lot of interest in that subject when dealing with Jomon and Yayoi times. Secondly, with the mysterious addition of a Seiichi Iwao bio, I think a "Historians" bio section is worth-while. Also, Nihon Shoki and Kojiki mythology, contain animals and plants Nagaeyari 13:57, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I definately want historians, authors, and books. --Kitsuno 14:40, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

Books category begun Nagaeyari 16:13, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I think we need a category "Background"? to put general topics like age (kazoe-doshi), the writing system, geography, plants(?) etc. in. Bethetsu 13 September 2006

Bethetsu, you write that age calc article on the spot? Fantastic job! I agree, there needs to be a catch-all on culture/traditions of SOME sort. Course, my fauna idea got shot down ;) Nagaeyari 20:55, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I agree - I was thinking "resources" although I don't necessarily like "resources", I can't think of a better word right now.

--Kitsuno 21:08, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I didn't write it quite on the spot--I have run into the age problem before and I had in mind to write about it. What about "Background" as a category? Bethetsu

I'm thinking "background" is OK, maybe "Historical Background", or "Background Information", "Background Resources"... I am very unsure at the moment, I have to think about it - I welcome anyone else's input as well. "background" seems to be lacking something, but I can't figure out what I want to say... --Kitsuno 22:47, 12 September 2006 (PDT)

I wrote the first one somewhere else, but "Tool Box" or "Tool Kit" could work Nagaeyari 17:06, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

By the way, "Fauna and Flora" is fine, assuming you can find something to fill it. --Kitsuno 17:11, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

The "Biographies" category will soon get out of control if we divide so much. How do we categorize poets, priests, poet-priests, artists, craftsmen, peasants, thieves (Ishikawa Goemon)? Bethetsu

I think the catch-all of "Cultural Figures" should get the rest - in fact, maybe I'll eliminate the "aristocrats" category in favor of that. --Kitsuno 18:25, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

 • The first entry into the Fauna and Flora category has been added Nagaeyari 19:19, 13 September 2006 (PDT)
