Shigemoto was the eldest son of [[Takenaka Shigeuji]]. He was at first a retainer of [[Saito Dosan|Saitô Dôsan]] but joined [[Saito Yoshitatsu|Saitô Yoshitatsu]] when the latter destroyed Dôsan in [[1556]]. In [[1558]] he won the [[Battle of Urushihara]] and took control of the [[Iwate clan|Iwate]] domain, dying two years later.
