Ôno Uchû was a samurai from Karatsu han in Hizen province. He joined the Shinsengumi in 1868 and became a subordinate under Hijikata Toshizo. After the Meiji Restoration, he served the new government.

He left the "Hakodate Senki" a journal of the Battle of Hakodate.
