Tokugawa Iemochi was born in the Kishu Tokugawa residence in Edo, 1846. He became the head of Kishu Tokugawa at age 4 (his name changed to Yoshitomi. In 1858, he became the 14th Tokugawa Shogun by the recommendation of Ii Naosuke.
