*866/int. 3 [[Otemmon Incident|Ôtemmon Incident]] - Main gate of [[Kyoto Gosho]] is burned.
*866/7 [[Tendai]] founder [[Saicho|Saichô]] and Tendai priest [[Ennin]] are posthumously named Dengyô Daishi and Jikaku Daishi respectively. This marks the first use of the honorary name/title "Daishi".
*866/8 [[Fujiwara no Yoshifusa]] becomes [[sessho|Sesshô]], beginning a tradition of [[Fujiwara clan]] regents.
