Motoda Eifu was a tutor on Chinese classics to the [[Meiji Emperor]]. He served that function for roughly twenty years, as well as being a Confucian advisor to the Emperor.
Motoda is also credited with playing a significant role in drafting the language of the ''[[Imperial Rescript on Education]]'', promulgated in [[1890]].
