Zengzi was one of the chief disciples of Confucius. He is quoted numerous times in the Analects of Confucius, and is the sole figure conversing with Confucius in the Classic of Filial Piety.

Along with Mencius, Zisi, and Yanzi, Zengzi is considered one of the "Four Correlates" - the four most esteemed disciples of Confucius.
