  • Japanese: 山本森之助 (Yamamoto Morinosuke)

Yamamoto Morinosuke was the first artist to teach Western-style oil painting in Okinawa.

He began teaching at Okinawa Prefectural #1 Middle School (Okinawa kenritsu daiichi chûgakkô) in 1901.

His students included Tokashiki Isen 渡嘉敷唯選 (1886-1927) and Nishime Seiraku 西銘生楽 (1887-1924), who then went on to become likely the first teachers of Western-style oil painting in Okinawa to be Okinawan.
