Watanabe Shûseki was an Edo period painter known for his paintings of the Dutch and Chinese compounds at Nagasaki. After being commissioned to produce record paintings of those two sites in 1699, his scrolls were reportedly so informative that officials commissioned him to then produce a number of additional copies; eight such sets are known to survive today.
