Categories debate

The "Biographies" category will soon get out of control if we divide so much. How do we categorize poets, priests, poet-priests, artists, craftsmen, peasants, thieves (Ishikawa Goemon)? Bethetsu

I think the catch-all of "Cultural Figures" should get the rest - in fact, maybe I'll eliminate the "aristocrats" category in favor of that. --Kitsuno 18:25, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

"Cultural Figures" might work for someone like Saigyô or sword-makers, but what about Mongaku, Nichiren, Sukezaemon of Luzon (a merchant of Hideyoshi's time), or Goemon? No matter how many categories we make there will be people outside them. At least we need an "other." Unless, of course we just make up categories as needed. Bethetsu Sept 14

  • I want "Edo Period" and "Bakumatsu" And where should Shinsengumi be?shikisoku Sept 14
It is simple to create a category - just write your article, and put this at the bottom: [[Category:Category Name]]. Just replace "Category Name" with the name of the category you create.
As for an "other" category, let's just call it "Other Historical Figures" then - it's the same as "other" except that it sounds better. Goemon could fit in a historical figure category - he's a known historical figure, and is hard to place otherwise. --Kitsuno 10:09, 14 September 2006 (PDT)
I think we have complete "biography" subcategories - but shall I remove the "aristocrats" category, and we'll just put them under "other historical figures" category? --Kitsuno 16:39, 15 September 2006 (PDT)
  • Why is Bakumatsu under Meiji period?shikisokuSept 16
I wasn't paying close attention to what I was doing. It's taken care of now. --Kitsuno 12:05, 16 September 2006 (PDT)

Removed Aristocrats Category

I've gone ahead and removed the aritstocrats category, and put those designated bios into the other cultural figures category. --Kitsuno 22:40, 15 September 2006 (PDT)

Mythology Categories

I'm not sure if it is clear, but the difference between "Obake" (Spirits, Ghosts, and Monsters), and "Mythological Creatures" is like the difference between the Kraken or Cerberus versus vampires, werewolves, and zombies... Or in Japanese terms, the difference between a Tengu or a Kitsune versus Byakko or Suzaku. Does that make sense? Basically creatures that appear in mythology versus "monsters".. --Kitsuno 23:07, 15 September 2006 (PDT)

If you need the Shogun

If you have a question about a page you are working on, post it to that page's talk section, but also post it on my own personal talk page, just to make sure I see it within a reasonable amount of time. --Kitsuno 03:53, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

New Categories

I have added the Yayoi category and the Jomon category. Secondly, for the stub clay pots section, are all the categories appropriate? Nagaeyari 18:24, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

"Clay pots are everywhere"? lol... I wouldn't put it in resource articles unless you plan on writing about how they are dated, or what can be learned from them, etc. - the resource articles are articles that give information on how to figure something out, at least that is my idea of it - like the "age" one, or articles about how to calculate between western and japanese dates, or articles about the japanese calendar, or general articles about the use of ceremonial titles. Things like that. Otherwise, it should be fine. --Kitsuno 19:27, 17 September 2006 (PDT)
Speaking of historical categories, should we also put in hakuho and azuchi-momoyama, or just eventually create articles about them, along with the rest of the eventual historical period articles? --Kitsuno 19:54, 17 September 2006 (PDT)
