Harold Gould Henderson

Harold Gould Henderson was a Japan scholar who over the course of his career served as Columbia University professor, director of the Japan Society in New York, advisor to the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program ("Monuments Men") division in Japan as a member of Gen. MacArthur's staff, and, along with Reginald H. Blyth, liaison between SCAP and the Japanese Imperial Household.

Henderson and Blyth also played key roles in drafting the so-called ningen sengen declaration in which the Shôwa Emperor declared himself human, and not a divinity.
